Weathered leather opium pillow
These leather pillows or neck supports were used by wealthy people on their opium beds. Public opium dens or less wealthy opium smokers used a variety of other kinds of pillows, made of wood or earthenware.
This authentic bright red leather pillow comes from Fujian province in China. It still has all the original lacquer and black decoration at the sides. The sides are further decorated with colourful flowers. Even though the lacquer is marked by time and the leather at the edges is weathered and exposed, it is a very nicely preserved opium pillow. Combine with other pillows or red elements for maximal decorative impact!
